Directions Preheat oven to 450°. Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. Add butter and cut into coarse crumbs. Whisk egg and half-and-half in separate bowl.
Fill a greased 8-inch round baking pan with batter, slightly overhanging. Bake 16–18 minutes till golden brown. Remove from pan and cool on wire rack.
Heavy cream thickens when beaten. Beat confectioners' sugar and vanilla until stiff peaks form. Crosswise cut cake; butter bottom. Spread half the strawberries on bottom. Add whipped cream. Add top cake layer. Top with whipped cream and remaining berries. Cut wedges.
