Hummingbirds are migrating. When will we see them in Ohio?

With spring, hummingbirds are coming. You can trace their northward migration from Central America and Mexico with an interactive map.

Hummingbird Central has reported hummingbird migration northward for 10 years. Hummingbird Central staff member Ken Freeman claims "citizen spotters" report their first hummingbird sightings.

The Rochester Democrat & Chronicle reported that "Last year we received over 12,000 sighting reports from all over the United States and Canada," Freeman wrote. "Watching hummingbirds is indeed a popular 'hobby' for many nature lovers."

When will Ohio get hummingbirds? Ohio hummingbirds return when? At Hummingbird Central, "citizen spotters" track the birds' movement. Starting in January, the project runs until May.

The first sighting was at Laguna Vista, Texas, on Feb. 8. Reports have come from Texas, Florida, Louisiana, and California.
